I
had to look up the names of those who wrote Rampage to check how old
they were and can confirm they are all adults. Surprising really as this seems
like a film I would have dreamt up back when The Rock was still ROCKing speedos
in the arena; hey, why don’t we get this super famous wrestler to fight a huge
albino gorilla, a mega wolf that can fly and shoot spines from its tail and a
crocodile that belongs on a different planet? If you like films such as Sharknado
or Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus, then this may be the film for you. The
only difference being the budget. Unfortunately, no amount of money could hide
how terrible the script is. Lines such as “of course the wolf can fly” are
surely going to create Oscar buzz? Let’s get past the fact that it is a
terrible film and try to give it some credit. Dwayne Johnson definitely works
hard – I’ll give him that. He was as good as he could be and I’m sure
he got paid the big bucks. As for the rest of the cast… I hope they were
earning figures not too far from Johnson’s because some of their lines were atrocious. Malin Åkerman was the worst – she was a cartoon villain
and I wasn’t sure whether to blame her acting or the script. Either way – why do
the movie if the character is that bad? I feel like a bully, but I suppose as a
‘film critic’ that’s what I am supposed to do. Rip films I don’t like to shreds
and ass lick those who took part in making films I enjoyed. Sometimes though I
feel that there is a film for everyone. Rampage will have been enjoyed
by a lot of people. Yes, most of those people will have been lying on their
sofas high as the Willis Tower, but this is what I mean by a film for everyone,
or rather, an audience for every film. So maybe do something that scares you –
go see that dodgy bloke who sells weed to your friends, roll up and watch this
movie. Only with drastic measures such as those are you going to enjoy it.
