What is going on? Marvel and DC Comics seem to have taken over the movie business in the last ten years. Marvel have released TWENTY films in that period, with three more to be released next year, and DC Comics have released ten, with four more to be released by the end of next year. Quantity over quality seems to be their mantra. I suppose when you are making the box office figures that Marvel are it makes sense to go for quantity as people are going to watch their films no matter how bad they may be. That is harsh, I know many people enjoy them, but I enjoy them as background noise. Let’s just say there are films I am more likely to put on. It may have been an error for me not to watch Batman vs Superman first. A lot of probable references and jokes from that film fell on deaf ears. It was pretty similar all round to the last recent DC film I watched, Wonder Woman (Day 88). DC need to just follow Marvel’s lead and pack their films so full of action that the audience get a sensory overload and walk out of the cinema with a headache exclaiming “yeah, I..I think it was pretty awesome”. That was Marvel’s tactic with Infinity War, from what I have heard. There really wasn’t enough action in this. Too much of Ben Affleck’s Batman gathering the squad together like a group of friends on a Saturday night. We got a few fireworks at the end, but Henry Cavill’s Superman is apparently invincible, so it was more sparklers than fireworks. Ezra Miller’s Flash was the diamond in the rough, or the Malteser in the Celebrations as my grandmother used to say. I found his parts genuinely funny. He’s a good actor so it was nice to see him pulling through in this otherwise damp squib of a movie. If I was you I’d stick to the true literature of these Justice League stories and read a comic or watch a cartoon.
