Got
to love Colin Firth. Not sure if I just haven’t seen enough of his film, but
his characters are all very similar. The unassuming, posh Englishman, suave and
polite always and this film is no different. Normally a bit of a heartthrob
too, and that doesn’t change here, except for the fact this he is bisexual in
this. He plays a college professor who has just lost his partner Jim (Goode) in
a car crash. We see Firth goes through all the emotions that come with loss,
even coming close to committing suicide. However, he is stopped by the boyish
looks of a very tanned Nicholas Hoult, who is a student in his class. Directed
by Tom Ford this film oozes style, as you would expect, and I really did enjoy
it. I was with George (Firth) every step of the way and I think I connected
with his performance in this more than in any of his other performances. The
acting is brilliant, thanks also to the evergreen Julianne Moore who plays
George’s best friend/former lover. Very easy to watch.
