Highly
rated movie this one, as well as being the reason for Aronofsky’s name being
well-known. It’s a weird film. Shot erratically, but it has a wonderful effect
as it matches the irrational characters, all of them junkies of some kind.
Ellen Burstyn is excellent in this film as Sara Goldfarb, a widower who gets
addicted to weight loss pills in her struggle to get onto a TV show. Her
decline is so scary and so reflective of the negative effects of television,
medication and living alone. Jennifer Connelly’s character is also appealing towards
the end of the film when she meets Big Tim. It’s a harrowing film, that seems
hastily cut together, and yet it works so well.
