As
I have mentioned before (I think) my favourite type of old films are war films
and westerns. So I thought I’d put on a DVD I found at my parent’s house with
surely one of the best male casts ever assembled. I’m not sure this film would
pass the Bechdel test, in fact I’m sure very few war films do. I wasn’t a big
fan of this film. Anthony Hopkins and Robert Redford were the only two worth
their reputations. It was just too broken up and hard to follow. The story
itself is an appealing one. Dropping in paratroopers to outflank the Nazi
troops in a move codenamed Operation Market Garden. It was the largest airborne
mission at that point in the war. It was an epic operation, with an unhappy
ending for the Allies so a better movie could have been made. Didn’t enjoy it,
wouldn’t watch it again, will stop writing about it.
