I
must admit, that like a lot of wannabe movie people, Wes Anderson is one of my
favourite directors. Not because of the stories, but because my eyes are always
so happy watching his films, the symmetry and attention to detail in every clip
is perfection. This film is no different, however it is of course different as
it is stop-motion. The writing is also better than usual, probably thanks to
the master himself, Roald Dahl. The repeated ‘wild animal’ references are
brilliant as you are watching a ludicrous story about talking animals and it
keeps referring back to the fact that they are all just wild beasts. The only
accurate representation of animals are the beagles that guard the farms. I
could write an essay about this film and Wes in general, this is up there with Moonrise
Kingdom as my favourite Anderson film I think. A lot of dry wit that
Baumbach and Anderson are famous for and it’s brilliant.
