Well, well, well. A lot of hype around this film, good hype, I had only heard good things. Got to admit that I did not enjoy it that much. It is a great concept for a film, I’ll give it that, but they could have done so much better with the screenplay and the music. The whole film is based on music so use better music! For years, literally years, I have wondered why no-one had made a good movie based around music, and it happens and they use pretty average tracks. Forget about the music for a second because I’ve said what I need to and it makes me angry. The story is OK, nothing more. Baby (main character) played by Ansel Elgort is a getaway driver who doesn’t really talk and he is paying back the boss (Kevin Spacey) for stealing something from him. Then when he pays him back, Spacey won’t let Baby lead a normal life. That’s basically it. Elgort’s acting is actually pretty good and he’s certainly a heartthrob. I think the writing let him down a bit. Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz etc) should have stuck to Pegg and Frost as I don’t think his writing works in Hollywood. Obviously the box office success proves me wrong but I just don't understand the hype. It may just be me – but this film was over-rated.
