My favourite scenes and occasional reasons why. I will provide links to the scenes where I can but I always advise that you watch the movies first. The scenes are far better within their context.
(SPOILER WARNING)
Royal Tenenbaums [2001] - Richie's suicide attempt
Luke Wilson's hair and costume design. Elliott Smith's beautiful song. Raw emotion and it makes me cry every time I watch it.
Watch it here
No Country for Old Men [2007] - Gas station coin toss
Watch it here
True Romance [1993] - Sicilian Scene
The tension in this scene between Dennis Hopper, a police officer turned security guard, and Christopher Walken, a Sicilian American gangster. It's a racially-charged scene where the outcome is inevitable throughout, however once Hopper's character realises this it becomes one of those special movie moments.
Watch it here
American Psycho [2000] - Morning Routine
There's something so satisfying about this scene. Banality hangs in the air and we already have our suspicions about Patrick Bateman.
